Romney to Radio Host: I’m Not Running As a Mormon

Republican Presidential Candidate, Mitt Romney got into a heated exchange with a radio host about his Mormonism.

Romney took offense to the fact that the host wanted Romney to talk about his Mormon beliefs. “I’m not running as a Mormon,” said Romney, visibly angry about having to answer to the same issue constantly. This is a page out of John F. Kennedy’s famous playbook when he was made to answer questions about his Catholicism. I applaud Romney’s wish to separate his personal faith from the office he’s running for.

    Yes, well, but…

The only way Romney can run without his religion being an issue would be for him to leave the Mormon church. Since he’s my aunt’s first cousin, I know a bit about his genealogy, and based on that alone, he is unlikely to ever become an apostate.

I find things to admire about Romney, but Mormonism is not a faith you can run away from him. In my town, we once hired a Mormon town manager. For his entire tenure, the only people who were hired were Mormons. His personal faith can’t be separated.
